Lando Norris

2025 World Champion

McLaren F1 Team

Overview

Lando Norris is a British and Belgian racing driver, born in Bristol on 13 November 1999, who won the 2025 Formula One World Drivers' Championship with McLaren.1 He clinched it at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 7 December, aged 26, finishing two points ahead of Max Verstappen.123

He grew up near Glastonbury and became the youngest karting world champion in his category in 2014.1 McLaren gave him his Formula One debut in 2019, and his first win came at Miami in 2024, after 110 races.1

Seven wins, two points clear of Max Verstappen

A fight inside McLaren

He opened the year by winning a wet Australian Grand Prix from pole, and later won Monaco from pole, then Austria, his first British Grand Prix and Hungary.1 His main rival was his teammate, Oscar Piastri, and the championship lead changed hands between them several times.1

The low points came in retirements. He collided with Piastri in Canada and was penalised, and an oil leak ended his Dutch Grand Prix from second, leaving him 34 points behind.1 Another collision between the two in Singapore added to the tension, and he trailed by 22 afterwards.1

Two points in Abu Dhabi

Winning in Mexico City put him back in the lead, and victory in São Paulo, with the sprint as well, extended it.12 Then he was disqualified from Las Vegas for plank wear. That left him 24 points clear of both Piastri and a charging Verstappen with two rounds to go.1

Fourth in Qatar, where Verstappen won, cut the margin further.1 Third in Abu Dhabi was enough. He finished on 423 points to Verstappen's 421, with Piastri on 410.3

Helmet

Valentino Rossi's fluorescent yellow helmets have shaped his designs throughout his career. His first karting helmet carried a large sun on each side, after Rossi's sun and moon design.1

Graphic design is a passion of his, and as a teenager he sold custom visor stickers to his rivals.1

He raced as number 4 on the way to the title, and as defending champion took number 1 for 2026.1
