Nine wins from 19 rounds

The season is still running. Figures stop at Mexico City on 1 November, with four rounds left, starting in São Paulo. Mercedes and Ferrari are still contesting the constructors' title.

Five wins in a row

A battery problem at the start in Australia dropped him to seventh, and he recovered to finish second behind George Russell in a Mercedes one-two.1 A week later in China he took pole and won by about five seconds, his first Grand Prix victory.1

He then won in Japan, Miami, Canada and Monaco.2 Five straight wins from a maiden victory is the longest such run in the sport's history.1 Monaco, won from pole, left Russell 68 points behind.1

The lead shrinks

An engine failure in Barcelona ended his race just after he had passed Russell for second.1 By Austria the lead was down to 25 points, and a mechanical problem at Silverstone left him fifteenth in the Grand Prix.12

Victory from pole in Belgium stopped the slide. Third in Hungary and second in the Netherlands, both ahead of Russell, took the gap to 59 points.1

Monza from nineteenth

A new power unit put him nineteenth on the grid for his home race. He pitted under a virtual safety car, gained more than 15 seconds on Russell in 21 laps and passed him to win.1 He was the first Italian to win the Italian Grand Prix in 60 years.1

He won again a week later in Spain, undercutting Lando Norris during another virtual safety car while Russell finished fifth.1

Closing it out

A brush with the wall in Azerbaijan qualifying left him sixteenth on the grid, and he recovered to fifth.1 Second in Bahrain and third in Singapore took the lead to 102 points.1 He won in Austin by 13 seconds, leaving him 123 clear with five rounds left.14

Mexico City only required ninth place.4 He started fourth and finished third behind winner Max Verstappen, and the title was his.3

Helmet

His helmet is built on a Savoy blue base with green, white and red details, drawn from Italy's national colours.1 The 2026 version stays close to his 2025 design, adding sky blue and black to the mix.6

For Monza he changed it completely. The one-off design follows the helmet Valentino Rossi wore at Mugello in 2002, and Antonelli took it to Rossi's helmet painter, Aldo Drudi.7

He races as number 12, chosen for his idol Ayrton Senna, and has said he will keep it rather than take number 1 for his title defence.1

Mercedes W17

The W17 was Mercedes' first car for the 2026 regulations, and is lighter, smaller and narrower than the W16 it replaced.5 It has a silver and black zebra pattern on the sidepods that forms the AMG logo.5
